Germany-based mobile gaming company Flaregames acquires Finnish mobile gaming startup Kopla Games. Through the acquisition Flaregames aims to introduce action RPGs to everyone.

The acquisition of the Finnish startup Kopla Games follows on from the current partnership between the two companies with mobile game Nonstop Knight, released in February 2016. The title became the most successful game launch in Flaregames’ history with over two million installs in the first three days of its release.

Kopla Games

Finland-based mobile gaming company Kopla Games was founded in 2015 by four seasoned developers who initially teamed up while working on Rovio’s Angry Birds franchise.

“We simply fell in love with Kopla,” says Klaas Kersting, Flaregames founder and CEO. “We share not only the vision of making awesome mobile games, but have the same values and mindset. The founders have built a team with amazing throughput and we have a great working relationship. We are looking forward to many more jointly developed hit games.”

As part of the acquisition deal, Kopla Games will remain completely operationally independent, as Flaregames wants to secure the Finnish game developers’ creative freedom. As well as retaining the company name, Kopla Games will also remain in its current location in the centre of Tampere, Finland.

“After having worked together with flaregames since the beginning of the year, this deal was a no-brainer for us,” says Mika Kuusisto, Kopla Games co-founder and CEO. “It enables us to be super focused on quickly searching and finding what the players are truly interested in, knowing that Flaregames has the know-how and muscle to scale it. Together we will create the next mobile gaming phenomenon.”
