German games accelerator expands to Finland

Remote Control Productions (RCP), a German games accelerator, is expanding its operations beyond the German-speaking region and establishing a subsidiary in Kotka, Finland. The Kotka-Hamina regional development company Cursor and RCP have agreed on the establishment of a joint venture. Cursor will own 25 per cent of the company.

Remote Control Productions Finland will launch its operations in Kotka in late 2015. The unit will work closely with RCP’s German head office, Cursor and Playa Game Industry Hub, a gaming community co-ordinated by Cursor. The aim of the joint venture is to create a commercial games accelerator in Kotka and to bring RCP’s know-how within reach of Finnish game companies. In the first phase in 2016, the new accelerator will seek co-operation with two to three game startups in which RCP will invest its expertise and labour in return for part ownership in the startups.

In Germany, RCP operates one of Europe’s most significant game developer networks and a commercial accelerator for the industry, offering gaming companies services in the areas of business development, sales & marketing and publishing. The company has been involved in the making of Rovio’s game Angry Birds Epic, among other things.
